Chautauqua’s shame
Chautauqua Institution was once an intellectual’s dream destination: Opera company, symphony orchestra, book stores, authors and noted speakers every day for the summer. Gated and safe. Nice people. Beautiful homes next to quaint Victorian gingerbread boxes, all adhering to a commonly held design ideal. Chautauqua Lake, at 32,000 acres a real big body of water to fish, swim, boat, and otherwise enjoy.
Chautauqua was also a unique symbol of community building, and education. The institution spawned The Chautauqua Movement, which was big from the 1890s through the 1930s, with places like Mount Gretna in Central Pennsylvania dedicated to comfy living, higher entertainment, tolerance, and learning.
Now, Chautauqua Institution is the antithesis of its founding ideals and original mission. Overthrown, captured, and jealously guarded by political extremists, its summer programming is now carefully groomed to exclude dissent and include well known jihadists. It’s pretty much extreme political indoctrination 24/7 there.
And yes, you read that above correctly. Chautauqua Instituion is now so tolerant of intolerance, the place regularly hosts pro-Jihad, pro-Sharia Law advocates (think of the people behind Jim Foley and Steve Sotloff having their heads sawn off while on their knees), who lie lie lie to adoring audiences, who in turn shout down questioners asking the right questions for the liars during the appointed Q&A periods.
I myself have been nastily hissed at and yelled at there, for clapping in support of a speaker or statement I like, while the endless sea of extremists in the audience uproariously cheered on their favored speaker.
The place is now ruthlessly run by intolerant, close-minded control freaks, serving up anti-Americanism by the bucketful, pro-Jihad by the boatload, and dissent-crushing manipulation by the truckload.
How sad. How utterly shameful.

Like James Foley, I am an Islamophobe
Muslim terrorists beheading people with kitchen knives don’t survive in a vacuum. They don’t spontaneously appear from thin air.
They come from Muslim communities, Middle Eastern and Western. They have tremendous support across great swathes of a 1.2 billion person population. They are, in fact, executing and implementing Islam exactly as the Koran demands.
That’s why there is no Muslim peace movement. It’s why there is no Muslim demonstration for Israel, Christians, or Yazidis. There are no Muslim-on-Muslim rumbles over jihad.
Instead, there are quiet supporters, indifferent bystanders, and active participants.
Reporter James Foley traveled to Syria to talk about the civilians there. Their challenges. Their aspirations. He was inclined to report on the daily atrocities by Assad’s forces and he was inclined to overlook the revolutionaries’ own barbarity.
Nonetheless, Foley was representative of Western civilization, so the Islamic activists took him prisoner, beat him, mistreated him, and finally cut off his head on video.
I watched his video. Foley was brave, even as his murderer lifted his chin and began sawing away with a knife. He tried to yell as the knife sliced deeply through his neck, it seems as a last act of defiance, because he still did not struggle. The video ends with James’ bloody head placed on his back besides his cuffed hands.
If you’re not phobic about this behavior, then there’s something wrong with you. Being phobic about Islam is a natural reaction among those who love life, justice, fairness, kindness, gentleness, mercy, and brotherhood.
Being called an “Islamophobe” is no bad thing. It means you’re a sane person of good values. You stand for goodness above evil. Any normal American would be an Islamophobe; there’s zero in common between Islam and America. Nothing. Zilch.
I am an “Islamophobe,” like James Foley, God rest him, a brave American.
Fellow Americans, enjoy your summer!
Dear fellow Americans, we got it good here. Summer time is for gardens, BBQ with friends, travel with the family, loafing by the pool, fishing, and so on.
Summertime in America is truly a serene time. We are blessed in this.
Don’t take it for granted.
The hoops and links and tethers that kept the world’s nations mostly stable over the past sixty years are broken. Entire arrangements of human life across enormous landscapes are changing. Europe, the Middle East, the Far East, all are in significant play. Iraq and Syria both have lost control of their borders.
Think this doesn’t effect you or your life? You’re wrong. Energy, trade, security, violent jihad, and more are all in flux, and changes are rippling across the globe.
America is a strong nation. Be prepared to be challenged, because it’s going to take all we have to succeed.

Islamic terrorism becomes “workplace violence”
Two weeks ago, the Obama Administration committed a blatant act of political correctness.
While it is probably not surprising in itself, the degree of this particular effort to scrub the news and shield Islam from criticism hasn’t passed anyone’s sniff test, not on the left and certainly not on the right.
Recall that in 2009, U.S. Army major Nidal Hasan gunned down dozens of his fellow American soldiers at Fort Hood. Those soldiers had all been disarmed by the base commander, who did not believe that soldiers should be armed while on the base. Thus, they were sitting ducks for Hasan’s rampage. Hasan did not believe in following the base commander’s rules.
Hasan, a Muslim, was inspired by now-dead Muslim leader al-Awlaki, another Muslim American who turned against the United States.
So, what exactly about this act of terrorism is “workplace violence”?
The answer is: Zero. Nothing. Zippo.
This mass murder committed by yet another clear-headed Muslim following the explicit dictates of his religion is terrorism; it’s the best example of Islamic terrorism in America that you can find in the news since the 2001 Twin Towers attack.
But ever since he became president, Barack Hussein Obama has made it his life’s purpose and mission to protect, advance, uplift, shelter, explain, and promote Islam at all cost. Examples of Obama’s pro-Islam cause range all the way from “my Muslim faith” slip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMUgNg7aD8M), to his speech in Cairo, his anti-Israel policies, his attempt to turn NASA into an Islamic program, to now his attempt to whitewash Hasan’s crime.
Hasan’s Islamic rage isn’t workplace violence, it is jihad terrorism that is a problem around the globe. And making matters worse is America’s politically correct effort to turn the U.S. military and federal bureaucracy into places especially friendly to Muslims, and especially radical orthodox Muslims who openly advocate for the destruction of Western civilization. Somehow, some Americans believe that tolerating intolerance demonstrates their best qualities, indicating their ultimate open-mindedness.
Thankfully, the vast majority of Americans see through this dangerous foolishness. Hopefully, by 2012 this egregious behavior by Barack Hussein Obama will have inspired millions of Americans to vote in a new president, a president who believes in the America that has existed for over 200 years, not the politically correct America set on self-destruct by Obama and his friends.
