"I am not quite sure how Bill Greenlee does it, but my impression is that he knew what we were planning even before we knew it ourselves," said congressional candidate Josh First. Wednesday, December 23, 2009 ONLINE will not publish again until Monday, December 28th Merry Christmas & Happy Kwanza That's a No-No…the Pennsylvania State Employees Retirement System this week upheld its earlier decision to deny former Luzerne County Judges Mark Ciavarella and Michael Conahan their state pensions…earlier this year, the two judges had pleaded guilty to federal corruption charges as a result of the infamous "Cash for Kids" scandal and the Retirement System voided their pensions…the two withdrew their guilty pleas and then demanded their pensions be restored…more appeals are ahead…Luzerne County Judge Michael Toole is set to plead guilty on Tuesday in another corruption case…the Retirement System has not ruled on his pension... Governor Ed Rendell has ordered his Cabinet officers to begin a process to determine what jobs can be eliminated in their Departments if there is no resolution to the bogged-down legislation to legalize table games at licensed slots casinos…Rendell indicated he had no confidence that the State Legislature can resolve differences over the number of slots casinos allowed and the splits of the local share of tax revenue to be gained through legalization…that loss of revenue – according to the Governor – will force him to terminate at least 1,000 employees…the Legislature returns to Session on January 5th and the Governor said he wanted a bill to sign by January 8th… Michael Smeltzer – executive director of the Manufacturer's Association of South Central Pennsylvania – says he is thinking about challenging Republican incumbent Congressman Todd Platts in next year's election…Dauphin County Republican Josh First will seek the GOP nomination to run against incumbent Democratic Congressman Tim Holden…his formal announcement is set for next Monday… Happy Birthday today to State Representatives Bud George and Jake Wheatley and to former State Senator Joe Loeper…Brent Vernon of the Governors Action Team celebrates on Christmas Eve…former Congressman John Peterson is our Birthday/Christmas boy…on Saturday, we celebrate with Ray Angeli – Member of the State Gaming Control Board and Jena Wolgemuth – Executive Assistant to Dauphin County Commissioner Dominic DiFranseco…State Senator Mary Jo White's birthday is on Sunday as are birthdays for State Representative Nick Kotik and Dave Myers – former legislative guy in the Gov's Office and DEP and now Chief of Staff for the President of Bucknell University…Happy Belated (last Friday) but real Birthday to Rocco Mirabito - the new son of State Representative Richard Mirabito and his wife Sara…Congratulations and good health to all…
